Airplane Crash Injuries

Airplane crash injuries are much less common than injuries incurred in automobiles but that is no consolation. Injuries due to airplanes crashing have ranged from small cuts to life threatening circumstances. Some injuries, such as those experienced by many Hudson River plane crash victims, can include exposure to freezing water or air without proper protection. The severity of injuries naturally depends on how the plane crashes. In the case of the Hudson River plane accident in January 2009, the injuries were not severe because the plane literally glided into the freezing water even though it had no pontoons to lessen the impact. In August 2005 a French Airbus A340 crashed in Toronto in a fiery explosion. Most of the 309 passengers were severely injured with injuries including lung damage due to smoke inhalation, but all survived. There are many reasons why airplanes crash and they include flight crew errors, equipment failures, weather, poor maintenance, and even air traffic controller errors. It is critical that passengers follow all safety procedures to minimize the chances of injuries in the event of a crash.
