Airport Lost Baggage

The last time you traveled by air, did you notice all the tags, complete with bar codes and important-looking numbers that are placed on each piece of your luggage? This is done in the hopes of keeping track of your luggage as it moves from airport to airport. Lost baggage happens more frequently than you would think, seemingly dropping out of sight forever sometimes. Often, missing baggage is located and brought to your home by a courier delivery person. All too frequently, however, you are left standing hopefully at the luggage carousel, watching intently for your suitcase as the conveyer belt moves. Your first step should be to find the claims counter for lost baggage that serves the last airline you flew on during the last leg of your trip. You may be told that they can "see" your bag in the system, and that it will be coming in on the next flight. Alternately, you may be told that they have no idea where your missing baggage is. If that is the case, try not to get upset. Statistics show that 98% of all missing luggage will be found in the next four or five days, more than likely at an airport. Lost baggage is no fun, but luckily, most of it does not stay lost for very long.

Fast Facts

  • Most of the stated figure of 98% of lost baggage is located in the first 24-48 hours after your flight arrives.
