Lost Baggage Airlines

If you travel by air frequently, eventually you are going to have the experience of lost baggage. Airlines are not perfect, and they do manage to misplace quite a bit of luggage. Some of it is never found. In fact, a study done of the airline industry back in 2005 noted that the percentage of lost luggage had increased to an overwhelming 23%. When you do the math, the numbers tell you that close to 10,000 pieces of luggage are lost every single day! The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, is the entity that is responsible for baggage handling. They are guilty of many instances of lost baggage. Airlines take responsibility for the luggage of their passengers, yet the TSA is responsible for handling the luggage and getting it from Point A to Point B. The numbers you see on the tags that are placed on your luggage after you check it in are reminiscent of the tracking numbers used by such package delivery companies as UPS, United Parcel Service. The tag numbers are what the airport goes by to keep up with your baggage as it runs through the gamut of conveyer belts and chutes that are leading it to the outside of the airport and into the belly of the airplane you will soon be boarding.
