NTSB Sends Team To Assist Brazilian Investigation Into Crash Of 737

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Transportation Safety Board is sending investigators to Brazil to assist in the investigation of the crash of a Boeing 737 after apparently colliding in mid-air with a business jet. All 154 persons aboard the 737 were killed, according to Brazilian authorities.

The accident occurred on the evening of September 29 when a Gol Linhas Aereas B-737 (crashed into remote jungle terrain while on a domestic flight from Manaus to Brasilia. An Excel Air Embraer Legacy 600 corporate jet with seven persons aboard, reported to have been involved in the collision, landed in Cachimbo, with no injuries to its occupants.

NTSB senior investigator William English will serve as the U.S. Accredited Representative, accompanied by two NTSB investigators, as well as representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and Boeing Aircraft Company.

All information on the progress of the investigation will be released by Brazil's Aeronautical Accident Prevention and Investigation Center (CENIPA).
