Investigation Of Float Plane And Charter Boat Collision
JUNEAU, Alaska - A floatplane and a fishing charter boat collided near Craig on August 5 while the floatplane was attempting to land.
The plane, a DeHavilland Beaver, clipped the top of the boat, a 22-foot Olympic Resorter, tearing off the boat's fiberglass roof. The plane suffered damage to one of its floats, but landed safely at the airport in Ketchikan. No one on either craft was seriously injured. Routine post-casualty testing of the floatplane pilot and the charter boat captain indicated alcohol was not involved.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Coast Guard, and the Craig Police Department are cooperating to investigate the incident, with the FAA taking the lead.
