Florida Aviation Accident

On Friday, September 21, 2007, a small 1964 twin-engine aircraft made a crash landing onto Florida’s I-95 in Fort Lauderdale. The Beechcraft airplane from Executive Airport heading to the Bahamas crashed onto the shoulder of I-95’s southbound near the Commercial Boulevard exit. A number of rescue units were present and assisted in recovering the pilot from the wreckage. The 34-year old pilot suffered severe injuries and was air-lifted to a nearby hospital. No other people were on the plane. The 4-ton aircraft clipped a Florida Department of Transportation storage building located off Powerline Road. Minor damages to the building occurred and no one inside of the building was hurt.

A spokeswoman from the Federal Aviation Administration has stated that the pilot failed to gain proper altitude and proceeded to call in a mayday. It is not know whether the planes age could have caused the pilot additional chaos, thus causing the aircraft to crash. In the attempts to avoid such accidents from occurring, routine checks are supposed to be administered to ensure that each and every aircraft is maintained properly. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the scene as the Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the age of the plane and whether it could have been a factor inevitably causing the plane to crash.
